ROBERT MACIEJUK – Winterreise
Exhibition of painting by Robert Maciejuk at the Polish Institute in Düsseldorf
October 29, 2008 – January 16, 2009
Robert Maciejuk was born in 1965 in Biala Podlaska. In1985-90 he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the guidance of professor Stefan Gierowski and professor Ryszard Winiarski. Currently he lives and works in Warsaw.
He belongs to a group of accomplished and respected Polish painters. His work was presented on many group and individual exhibitions.
Robert Maciejuk is, one might say, a born and bred painter. During the times when the point of painting was undermined, when painters looked for other means of expression, when they were being tempted by new media, Robert Maciejuk constantly and diligently works with canvas. Of course art needs experimentation, but Maciejuk’s search is limited to the area of painting, texture, light. In the exhibition, small paintings (30×50 cm) accompany huge ones (150x200cm). Pointillist paintings accompany canvases with well-defined texture. The light is exaggerated by using Christmas lights.
Robert Maciejuk’s exhibition at the Polish Institute in Düsseldorf entitled “Winterreise” is above all else a presentation of winter landscape paintings. But don’t let the first impression deceive you. In Maciejuk’s work, the surface level is only the beginning. A beginning of a journey.
