PIOTR WYRZYKOWSKI – Only Those Who Planned It Will Survive

Piotr Wyrzykowski was born in 1968 in Gdańsk. In his practise he uses video, video performances, internet, installations and projections in public space.
At first, he studied interiors architecture (1989-1991), and then painting (1991-1995) at Academy Of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. He obtained a diploma in the Intermedia Workshop under prof. Witosław Czerwonka.
In the 90s Piotr actively participated in the artistic environment of Gdansk, being a member of Social Initiative Association (1991-1992) that run C-14 gallery. He was also a member of the Open Atelier Foundation (1992-1993) and a vice-chairman of the Wyspa Progress Foundation (1993-1995) running Laznia (at present “Laznia” Centre for Contemporary Art). In 1995 he became a cofounder and artistic director of CUKT (Central Office for Technical Culture – Centralny Urząd Kultury Technicznej). In 1995 he was awarded his first and in 1997 second prize at the WRO festival. He was nominated for “Views” Deutsche Bank Foundation Award in 2003. He lives and works in Gdansk and Kiev.
In Arsenal Gallery in Bialystok Piotr Wyrzykowski participated in group exhibitions “Non-existing workshop 1987-1997” (1997) and “Views 2003” (2004) he was also a co-author of a multimedia show by Central Office for Technical Culture “Wiktoria CUKT” (2000).
