Hector Bialostozky – Archeology
Archeologia is a site-specific installation by Mexican artist Hector Bialostozky that stems from a journey back to his grandfather’s birthplace in Poland. The work documents the experiences, the feelings and the thoughts that arise from his return to Bialystok almost a century after his grandfather’s emigration to Mexico. The work attempts to address issues of identity and belonging, and memory and reconciliation.
Hector Bialostozky (Mexico City 1970). Holds a BFA in sculpture from Parsons School of Design in New York City and an MA in contemporary history from the University of Havana in Cuba. He worked initially as a contemporary artist and showed at the Museo X’Teresa Arte Alternativo, the Antiguo Colegio de San Idelfonso, the Museo Universitario del Chopo, among others. However, when he became aware of the growing relationship between art and the ‘free’ market, he decided to leave behind his egocentric pretensions and become a semi-anonymous multidisciplinary researcher (i.e. a ‘loser’). Since then, he has studied several body, therapeutic, theatrical and artistic disciplines, along with other fields of knowledge like history, politics and religion. He has worked and lived in India, China, Cuba, Brazil, the U.S. and Israel. Currently he teaches the subject Awareness and Creative Expression at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City.
