Eminent Czech visual artist Eva Koťátkova’s exhibition „Maszyna do przywracania empatii” / “Machine for Restoring Empathy” shall coincide with the Arsenal Gallery power station (elektrownia) at Elektryczna No. 13, reopening its doors.
Eva Koťátkova’s art explores public, institutional and physical structures of daily life, their rules and restrictions essential to the ways we think and behave. The artist pays considerable attention to circumstances of groups and individuals excluded and/or discriminated against for a variety of reasons, seeking alternative means of communication for anyone unable to engage in conventional conversation or integration.
Filling the old power station’s space in its entirety, the title artwork showcases empathy as a force allowing us to take action and comprehend our world. The large-format and multi-component installation can accommodate animals, plants, objects and people – as well as their mutual equality-based relations. The Machine for Restoring Empathy is performative in nature. It opens its space to storytelling based on experiencing compassion, care and integration. This is a particularly perfect place for anyone feeling incomplete, lacking, hurting or oppressed. Engaging visitors in activities designed to question rigid rules, it opens up new capacities for viewing the world.
