“The East of Culture” is a new form of cultural cooperation of cities of Eastern Poland with the states of the Eastern Partnership. For the first time ever on such a scale, three cities – Białystok, Lublin and Rzeszów – discover new possibilities of cooperation of communities for the sake of the trans-border circulation of culture, artistic and cultural exchange, and the mobility of artists and works. The project was launched thanks to the commitment of artistic communities and local governments of Eastern Poland, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the National Culture Centre.
The first joint endeavour is the organisation in 2013 of three festivals: “European Stadium of Culture” in Rzeszów, “Another Dimension” in Białystok and the festival “Integrations–Mediations” in Lublin, accompanying the Eastern Europe Initiatives Congress under the motto “Culture for the Eastern Partnership”. The art program is to be based first of all on initiatives of local culture operators and artists, on an exchange of art projects between the cities involved and on joint projects held with artists from the states of the Eastern Partnership. Cooperation with the Eastern Partnership countries is to demonstrate their potential and inspire festival participants, since the culture of those countries continues to be less known and popular in Poland.
