The aim of the exhibition comprising artworks and utilitarian objects is to shed light on the idea of Bauhaus. Founded by Walter Gropius and operating in Germany from 1919 to 1933, Bauhaus was one of the most radical art schools, educating mostly designers and architects. Bauhaus is also the name of the style developed at the school, considered to be a variation of interwar modernism. Presented at the display, the most important premises on which the school programme was based included annulment of the division between an artist, an architect, a craftsman and industry as well as integration of various fields of art within the framework of new functional architecture.

The core of the exhibition staged by the Arsenal Gallery is formed by works of five artists, executed in diverse techniques, including collage, photography, objects, visualization of a mural, fabric and ceramics. Created over the past few years, the works have neither come into being “in relation to” Bauhaus nor been commissioned for the exposition. However, many associations with Bauhaus ideas, formal and conceptional traces creatively corresponding with the assumptions of the legendary school can be found in them.

Apart from pieces by contemporary artists, the exhibition features original objects from the interwar era, such as tubular steel furniture, ceramics or lamps. Stage arrangements in the rooms of the Arsenal Gallery provide a reconstruction of the famous Frankfurt kitchen, designed by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky in 1927, a cinema designed by Herbert Bayer in 1924-25 as well as an austere student room.
