The Chronicle of place [fragments]
In 1981 Andrzej Dworakowski exhibited his works for the first time. This time, in 2015, he presented an overview of the years, reflection on his art within a longer time.
In 2014 a black album Place of Dworakowski was published. The artist expressively disclosed: “Drawings […] manifest what I actually feel, that the world around is drawn, the reality, both the inner and the one that surrounds me, is articulated, documented”. […]
People create a place where they live, which they shape and form out of their thoughts, feelings, beliefs, external actions, subcutaneous, hidden or unconscious intentions. They express the inner world, the stream of the experiencing “I” outside. They live in the place they have created, and are still creating.
Dworakowski displays their internal landscape, the image of the dark side of the mind. He is also subject to recognition. He observes and is being observed by the eye in a triangle, the artist’s conscious eye.
This is how the chronicle of Polish mentality of recent decades has been created. Dark, pessimistic, monotonous and tedious. Occasionally there appears more whiteness, and by contrast the more gray and black strike.
Mentality does not change. Over the years we have been experiencing the same irrational motives. Showy pennants, grinning beasts. False perspectives. Clumsy, useless ladders. Crosses – non-crosses like old, wooden telegraph poles, besieged by flock of flags. Signs without meanings, unimportant, but eye-catching, depleting strength, occupying time. Things broken, reversed, unformed, stunted, which are portrayed in the form of the national hieroglyphics, handed down from generation to generation, as codes of conduct. The world imperfect, confused, dirty. The image of loss and negligence, from which evil and the worst sufferings come – meaningless, without the will to establish the causes, understanding or reparation. Exaggeration? I do not think so.
The place of Bialystok. You do not have to look too far. Dworakowski lives here, where his field of view is, the apple falls close to the tree. Thus, it is also about specific, local, today mentality. You can look at Yourself, look into Yourself, check. […]
The artist left numerous squares blank in order not to close the chronicle. The exposure of shocking portrait has not been completed.
