Olga Tokarczuk graduated from the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Warsaw.

She is the author of such novels as: The Journey of the Book-People (Podróż ludzi Księgi) (1993), E. E. (1995), Primeval and other times (Prawiek i inne czasy) (1996), House of Day, House of Night (Dom dzienny, dom nocny) (1998), The Final Stories (Ostatnie historie) (2004), Anna In in the Tombs of the World (Anna In w grobowcach świata) (2006), Runners (Bieguni) (2007), Drive Your Plough over the Bones of the Dead (Prowadź swój pług przez kości umarłych)  (2009), The Jacob’s Books (Księgi Jakubowe) (2014), short story collections The Wardrobe (Szafa) (1998) and Playing on Many Drums (Gra na wielu bębenkach) (2001), a book-length essay on Boleslaw Prus’ novel “The Doll” entitled The Doll and the Pearl (Lalka i perła) (2000) and an essay collection The Moment of the Bear (Moment niedźwiedzia) (2012).

The winner of many prizes, including: Kościelski Foundation Award (1997), the Passport of Polityka weekly (1997), Silesian Culture Award (2003), Samuel Bogumil Linde Literary Prize donated by the partner cities of Torun (Poland) and Gottingen (Germany) (2008) and Usedomer Literary Prize (2012). She was repeatedly nominated to Nike Literary Award, that she won in 2008 for her novel Runners (Bieguni). In 2002 she received the prestigious „Brücke Berlin” prize for House of Day, House of Night and was nominated to International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award (2004).

Her books have been translated into many languages worldwide, including: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, Bulgarian, Serbian, Croatian, Russian, Czech, Ukrainian, Turkish, as well as, Chinese, Japanese and Hindi. Some of her works were also staged in theatre, including: “Primeval and other times” twice (directed by S. Majewski and P. Tomaszuk), “E.E.”

In 2015, on the basis of the Olga’s screenplay, based on the book “Drive Your Plough over the Bones of the Dead” will be produced a film directed by Agnieszka Holland  .
