Slow Art Day

18.04.2015 – 18.04.2015
Arsenał Gallery, ul A. Mickiewicza 2, Białystok

Come and join us for Slow Art Day on 18 April 2015 (Saturday) at 12.00.

Slow Art Day is a social action that has been organized since 2011 to help more people discover for themselves the joy of looking at and loving art.

Let’s meet on Saturday, 18 April at 12.00 and together look at five works presented at the exhibition “Common Sets” at Galeria Arsenał, ul. A. Mickieiwcza 2 and then meet over a cup of coffee or tea to talk about your experiences. To sum up the action: come, look at and talk.

This year Natalia Tur, called Nishka, a popular blogger from Białystok will be a special guest and will talk about the work by Konrad Smoleński “The End of Radio”, 2012. The action will be also guided by Monika Szewczyk, Magdalena Godlewska-Siwerska, Ewa Borowska and Sylwia Narewska from Galeria Arsenał who will introduce other works: “Self-portrait” by Tomasz Mróz, 2006; Dreamland Donbas (fragment) by Viktor Marushchenko, 2004; “Woman in Mask” by Anna Baumgart, 2006; “Three the most venerable sisters born…” by Marek Kijewski, 1994.

According to statistical research, an average museum-goer spends eight seconds looking at each artwork. Eight seconds is in fact just a cursory glance that does not allow for any reflection and leaves the viewer indifferent to what they have just seen. Having looked in this way at a large number of pieces, visitors associate museums and art galleries with visual chaos and exhaustion resulting from passive reception of art, which does not broaden experience in any new or pleasant way. The idea of Slow Art is intended to provide a counterbalance to this pointless and common way of visiting art institutions. Slow Art is savouring art, being open to what it brings and finding inspiration – after all, providing inspiration is one of the basic functions of a museum.
