RIGHT TO THE GLEANING
RIGHT TO THE GLEANING. Lecture and film presentation with Sebastian Cichocki, curator of the 40th contemporary art biennial EVA International The Gleaners Society in Limerick, Ireland

We invite you to Augustas Serapinas’ accompanying exhibition – a lecture and film presentation, prepared by Sebastian Cichocki (MSN in Warsaw), who this time will act as curator of the 40th Irish Biennial of Contemporary Art EVA International. The biennial was held under the banner of “The Gleaners Society,” in the city of Limerick, including an elementary school, a cathedral, a pub, a university campus, a vegetarian canteen and a library. The biennial program was based on the idea and practice of gleaning – traditionally meaning the gathering of leftover crops after the harvest. For Cichocki and those participating in the biennial, the term became an artistic theme, a political metaphor and a curatorial methodology for testing new forms of art’s relationship with society. ‘The Gleaners Society’ has its next iteration in 2025 at The House for Media Art in Oldenburg.
At the meeting in Bialystok, the curator will talk about selected artistic realizations presented as part of the exhibition and present excerpts from films by such artistic figures as Deirdre O’Mahony, Eimear Walshe, Rory Pilgrim and the ikkibawiKrrr collective.
* The films include a soundtrack in English and Korean, without Polish translation.
