An event accompanying the exhibition “Our Child”

duration: one hour

Stories of Crying, Laughter and Whispers is a performance exploring the potential of getting in touch with our inner child, and staying connected to our children and to each other. Bound with a shared umbilical cord, we form a collective body communicating intergenerational experience. We interweave songs with stories and stories with songs in accounts of growing joys and pains – our children’s and our own. Crying is followed with laughter, sorrow – with relief. Stories of Crying, Laughter and Whispers are performed by Michaela Pospíšilová-Králová, Tereza Kerle, Máša Hilčišin, Zuzana Štefková, Linda Straub, Kateřina Olivová and Darina Alster of the Mothers Artlovers collective.

We are planning an interactive format, asking the audience to participate and assist us. Everyone is welcome to physically join our circle and share stories. Choosing not to interact is also okay. If you choose not to get involved physically, you can show it by wearing a white paper sticker. You can still feel connected even if not actively participating or silent. There will be a person you can talk to in case you feel overwhelmed.

Mothers Artlovers are a group of mothers – visual artists, theoreticians,  curators and activists responding to the specific experiences, problems and needs of mothers and caregivers involved in the art world. In addition to providing mutual support and mapping the issue of parenting in the arts, the group addresses the issue on political and institutional levels. The goal of Mothers Artlovers is to create an artworld more responsive to the needs of children, parents, and caregivers.
