30.08.2024 – 30.08.2024

From August 28 to September 3, 2024, Taiwanese artist Liu Chi-Tung will visit Bialystok in preparation for the Common Landscape/Greeting a Stranger exhibition, which will open in the spring of 2025 at the Arsenal Gallery Power Plant in Bialystok.

The Arsenal Gallery audience will be able to meet Liu Chi-Tung and exhibition curator Nien-Ting Chen this Friday, August 30. Our guests will talk about Taiwanese art, focusing on its contemporary aspect.

The presentation will begin at 17:00 at the Arsenal Gallery in Bialystok, Mickiewicza Street 2. It will be conducted in Mandarin with a translation into Polish. Admission is free.

Liu Chi-Tung graduated from the Graduate Institute of Trans-disciplinary Arts at the Taipei National University of the Arts in 2021. Her artistic practice primarily focuses on seeking the punctum in the scenes of daily life and performing actions that pierce them. Recently, Liu has paid attention to the invisible places beneath the modern facilities. Through the mediums of video, text, sculpture, installation, and project-based art forms, she traverses horizons and the boundaries between the surface and depths of water, exploring the fractures between the landscape beneath her feet and the language that continues to exist. Her work delves into recollections of forgotten memories and reflects upon the relationship between oneself and the surroundings

Nien-Ting Chen is an independent curator and visual artist. She holds a PhD from the Liverpool School of Art and Design (LSA, LJMU) in 2023 and a Master of Fine Art from the Glasgow School of Art (GSA, GU), United Kingdom in 2018. Her research and artistic practice focus on promoting Taiwan’s art and cultural scene and increasing its visibility in the global contemporary art landscape. In 2023. Nien-Ting founded The Middle of Art Space, an independent art space organizing contemporary art exhibitions, workshops, and residencies in Taipei.

“Common Landscape/Greeting a Stranger” is an international exhibition initiating a dialogue between several countries through art. Its axis will be issues of decolonization and deimperialization and an analysis of existing political and ideological constraints, geopolitical fractures, and fragmentation – with the perspective of developing strategies to overcome them.

Based on horizontal (non-hierarchical) relationships and critical thinking, the exhibition will attempt to build bridges between different subjective experiences and develop trust and solidarity in order to design a more just future. The project will present works by artists from Poland, Ukraine, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova and Taiwan.
