“CREATE YOUR PRESIDENTIAL SPEECH!” WORKSHOP FOR MIGRANTS WITH ARTIST MARTA ROMANKIV

Marta Romankiv invites migrant people to co-create a vision of the future in which every resident has political and social agency. As part of the project Room for Exercise, presented in an exhibition at the Arsenal Gallery in Bialystok, the artist encourages people to create their own presidential speeches, offering the opportunity to symbolically run in the Polish presidential elections.
The “Create Your Presidential Speech!” workshop will become a space to work on writing, practicing, delivering and recording your own speeches. They will include creating, among other things, proposals for solutions to the problems faced by people who do not have the right to vote and cannot be elected by their communities.
Through her practice, Marta Romankiv seeks to change the perception of migrant people – from an “economic solution” to new residents. As part of her exhibition at the Arsenal, she creates a safe space in which visitors can co-create the community action she initiates. The Lviv-born artist, who has been living in Poland for 8 years, treats art as a sphere where ideas that are not yet possible outside of it – such as migrants’ co-determination of the country’s fate, their empowerment and going beyond the archaic, in her opinion, division of Polish residents into citizens and non-citizens – can be realized.
