Children’s Art Book Festival

‘Books electrify to think, create and act’ – this informal slogan of this year’s edition is related to the new venue of the Festival, which has been moved to the Arsenal Gallery power station, and to an idea that we got bitten by the explorer bug in our childhood by such wise and beautifully designed books. The explorer who asks how the world works.

13.05.2017 – 14.05.2017
Arsenal Galllery power station, ul. Elektryczna 13 (the entrance from ul. Świętojańska)

Children’s Art Book Festival will take place on 13 and 14 May 2017 and will be organized by the Arsenal Gallery in Białystok. It aims to promote reading among children in Podlaskie Province and is the only event of this type in North-Eastern Poland.

As usual, we focus on art books in which an illustration is not an additional element of a book’s content, but it constitutes its equal partner. We promote smaller, niche and family publishers, which are not widely distributed. The festival participants will have possibility not only to purchase latest publications directly from a publisher, but also to take part in illustration workshops, meet writers, or release their creative beasts (‘String Art Room’, ‘Printing House Without Electricity’). This year’s novelty, besides the new venue, will include joint listening to the broadcast about Jan Czochralski, a live demonstration of illustrating by Tomasz Samojlik and an open lecture held by assistant professor Maciej Zajkowski, as part of Children’s University of the Bialystok University of Technology.

What distinguishes our Festival from other literary festivals is our focus on the book’s visual aspect that we use to promote visual education.

We would like such an extraordinary space where the Festival will take place (over hundred-year-old power station) to inspire young readers to act and think creatively. We intend to focus on books that encourage children to recognize the processes ruling our everyday lives, to learn about physical phenomena, books that present great inventions of Polish scientists and biographies of famous scholars, whose discovieries have changed the world. We would like to develop young children’s confidence in science and point that anyone can become the inventor, just let your imagination run free.

The Festival includes the following events:
