Aneta Szylak: a co-founder and Director of Wyspa Institute of Art (2004-2014) and the Łaźnia (Bathhous) Centre for Contemporary Art (1998-2001). The author and Artistic Director of the Alternativa International Visual Arts Festival. She has co-curated numerous exhibitions including: The Field is to the Sky, Only Backwards (2013), Materiality (2012), Buildings and Remnants (2012), Labour and Leisure (2011), Estrangement (2010, 2011), Guardians of the Docks (2005), Palimpsest Museum (2004), BHP (2004) i Architectures of Gender (2003). Co-author of „The Curatorial. A Philosophy of Curating” (2013). She has taught and lectured at many art institutions including Bard College, New School University, Queens College, New York University, and worked as a guest professor at the Akademie für Bildende Künste in Mainz, Germany and at the Copenhagen University, Denmark. She is currently finalizing her PhD thesis entitled “Curating Context. The Palimpsest” at Goldsmiths College in London and Copenhagen Doctoral School, Copenhagen University. She is active in the protection of the post-industrial heritage of Gdansk.
